Worse, some of these look superficially the same but are of different quality – perhaps a copy was one that was compressed to be sent via email. Between sharing photos between iPhones while traveling (and updating the Photos library afterwards) and importing old digital photos, we’ve ended up with a lot of duplicates. One thing that always leads me to bewilderment is that there are duplicates in these libraries. The drive that stores the family digital photo album holds a huge photo library, and as our kids have grown up, we now shoot far more photos than videos or that would be too bad. On my MacBook Pro – which is mainly used for writing – my photo library is currently over 560GB in size. The photos and videos that recent iPhones are capable of taking can result in some very large files. If you’re a Mac user, your Photos library may be one of the biggest users of storage on your computer.
